During this Session, Author Ann McMullan and Sibme COO TJ Hoffman will lead a discussion relating key takeaways from conference sessions to current challenges faced by school leaders. Ann will offer insights from her book (which will also be given away to select attendees) and discuss ways school leaders can embrace opportunities to bring meaningful change to schools in the fall.
Ann McMullan is the founder and lead consultant of her firm, Ann McMullan Education Consultant, based in Los Angeles, CA. Ann serves education leaders, teachers, non-profits and firms doing business with schools and school districts to assist with leadership and strategic planning targeted to making learning relevant for all students.
Ann facilitates leadership workshops, both face to face and via webinars. Currently Ann is serving as the moderator for a national monthly webinar series, The EmpowerED Superintendent, co-hosted by CoSN, AASA and edWeb.net. She also writes for multiple education journals and newsletters, such as District Administration, eSchoolNews and Learning.com equip. Ann’s public speaking engagements include international, national and state conference workshops, keynote and breakout sessions, as well as panel presentations on leading the transformation of learning and teaching to meet the needs of today’s students, teachers and administrators. Ann is the Project Director for the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) EmpowerED Superintendents Initiative and is a Featured Collaborator with Educational Collaborators. She also serves as a member of ClassLink’s Senior Advisory Board, the Project Tomorrow Speak Up Advisory Panel and is a volunteer leadership consultant for Executive Service Corps of Southern California.
As a 34-year Klein ISD TX veteran educator, Ann spent 18 years as a middle school social studies teacher, followed by 16 years as a district administrator. In that role, she led the team that worked on the visioning, planning and effective implementation of strategies and tools for digital learning in Klein ISD, a school district with 50,000 students and 6,000 employees located near Houston, TX. Klein ISD has earned a national reputation as a leader in maximizing technology tools to improve learning for all students. Ann concluded her work in Klein ISD as the Executive Director for Educational Technology prior to her family’s move to Los Angeles, California in 2013. During her time in Texas Ann also served as the co-chair of the Texas Educational Technology Advisory Committee which developed and produced the Texas Long Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020.
Because Ann felt that the work she had been doing in leading change in education systems to meet the needs of today’s students was still urgent and relevant, soon after her move to Los Angeles, she started her own independent education consulting firm in the fall of 2013. Today Ann works nationally and internationally as a speaker, writer and consultant, focused on leadership, visioning and planning. In September 2016 Ann co-authored and published Life Lessons in Leadership, which is available on Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com and Follett Titlewave.com.
